Tony Butler Golf Course

While i do enjoy playing at The Tony Butler Golf Course, there are several outstanding issues that could make the event better. On any weekend, especially afternoon, when the temperature has spiked to over 90 you run a good chance of finding no water in the coolers. Yet, should you dare to call the pro shop to inquire as to why, you may find that the person answering the phone is not very helpful. The two standard responses are: “They are out there”, or “I’m the only person here.” Why then do you find at least 2 or 3 volunteers, during the early morning hours? These are the same volunteers who get free golf for their services. Yet nearly every single one of them is a "Winter Texan" or one who has moved here with in the last few years. It is as if a true local is totally unknown at TBGC. More to follow….

Restrooms
by: Sally

We golfed at TB today. The day was perfect for golf. We didn't have an issue with water, however the restrooms on the course were another story. They were disgustingly dirty. Filled with spider webs and spiders. We golf quite often at TB and it appears the restrooms haven't been debugged and cleaned since we started golf this year. It shouldn't be that hard to hose everything down. We're hoping improvements will be made in this area.

Comming out of the closet
by: Ronald Housel

I wonder why Tim ( last name unkown ) and I are the only ones that put a name to our comments. Seems to me that PPL who have complaints and would like to have them addressed by the Golf Course would like to have any fixes addressed to the complainer. Might be nice if someone at the Golf Course would comment on the ideas posted by the players. Seems only fair since the ideas posted by the players aren't addressed by anyone but other players not the staff at the Golf Course.

Water on course at TB
by: Ronald Housel

Tim,
Maybe a solution to filling the water stations is fairly simple. All the ppl who complain about the water stations not being filled every day volunteer to go out every morning and fill them. Not just the days they play. Now that would make every one happy.

Supplied water at TB
by: Ronald Housel

Tim,
Has the heat addled some brains ? lol Man I don't see a real problem at TB. Has ppl forgot about common sense and taking care of them selves and not expecting someone to take care of them? Wow! that sounds very much like some very high political figures way of thinking. hummmmmm food for thought.

What's better?
by: Tim

Concerning Tony Butler Golf Course, I do believe the original poster stated, ?I do enjoy playing at The Tony Butler Golf Course.? They then point out, there could be some improvement. I did not read this as a slam dunk. Just some frustration with customer service.

Can people bring their own water? Yes. Do people bring their own water? Probably? Is the water being supplied by the golf course a necessity? No.

However, my question would be: Why is there a water station there in the first place? If there is a water station, obviously it?s there for a reason. Why not fill it? Sounds to me, there is an issue with customer services than anything else.

Take H.E.B for an example. If you ask an employee the location of a product and they tell you isle 9, that?s fine. On the other hand, If the employee takes you to isle 9 and shows you, that?s better. Same thing applies at TBGC. Golf with no supplied water is fine, but Gold with supplied water is better.

TB on course water
by: Ronald Housel

I read all the comments the other day and there were more critics than constructive comments. I don't play TB any more but I did from he early 80's til 2001 when I moved from Harlingen.
When our groups played we always furnished our own water or refreshment. It was hot then in the summer and cold in the winter. We never found it to hot but some times too cold so we didn't play and found other things to do except bitch about the course or weather.
Suck it up guys and take care of your own needs and not bitch about what some one doesn't provide for you.
I wish I could play TB again. Water or no water. You see I'm dying with stage 4 cancer so be greatful for a nice course and being able to play with good friends as I did for a lot of years.

Water on course at TB
by: Ronald Housel

Wow! I read all the coments on the water situation at TB. I no longer live in Harlingen or get to play TB but I did from the early eightys till 2001. It was hot then too but the players in our groups carried their own water or refreshments and didn't cry to the club house or city. We came to play golf, if it was to hot or to cold we didn't play nor bitch about the weather. Suck it up guys, prepair with what you need to substain your self and injoy the golf, not bitch.RH

American Flag
by: Anonymous

I know that it is the proper thing to do at dusk to take the U.S. flag down. At TBGC they fail to do this most of the time, also if the flag is tattered it's time to retire the flag and dispose of it properly. TBGC needs to show respect and treat "old glory" with respect. I'm suprised the exmilitary winter Texans don't say any thing 'cause TBGC doesn't lissen to a "local".

Water
by: Anonymous

Most golfers I know take their own water or buy some at the clubhouse. Assuming you are playing at normal pace, you can restock/refill on water after 9 holes before heading to the back 9.

I don't buy the heatstroke excuse or trying to scare the city with a lawsuit. Frankly speaking, that was just so stupid to even suggest but sounds like a typical Valley response to problems.

Anyway, if you play golf enough, especially as much as Winter Texas do you know a few things about playing in the Valley. 1) Its hot! 2) You carry water with you and 3) you refill before heading into the back 9. Yep, we all wish Butler has professional staff but you get what you pay for so either arrive prepared next time or go play else where.

Only at TBGC
by: Anonymous

Only at TBGC can you call in from out on the course and ask where the drinking water is, and get a smarta** response that they know there is no water and then have the phone hung up. Yet today 11/28/10 there are a couple of new "marshals" who's duties must be to ride around and pick up "lost golf balls". They aren't allowed to enforce the basic golf edicit rules, pick up trash, nor put out the water coolers. What gives?

Wow, how cheap.
by: Tim

I would agree. If they have a spot for the players to get water, there should be water there. I always had the impression Golf was supposed to be a high class sport.

If they can not keep their water stations full, maybe their just aiming to be Wal-Golf. Bad customer service but good prices.

I believe Tony Butler is owned by the city. If they every see this, they will probably either remove the stations all together or raise fees / taxes to pay for the water. I'm joking, but sadly it might come true.

As far as a lawsuit would go, I'm not sure they would be responsible. However, the bad publicty would really hurt the course.

They can't say they didn't know about the complaint, because I emailed this link to them. :)

Water issues at the Golf course
by: Anonymous

I just read this and I agree there should be more people paying attention to the water holes. This is an easy fix. If there is no water and you?re having a heat stroke just having water at each hole could save one?s life. The lame excuse is I am the only one here and cannot do anything about it is really bad PR. Can they afford a law suit for damages if this person dies on the golf greens? You are dealing with older people mostly the Winter Texans. Do you think if it goes to court the jury is going to say not guilty when this is so easy to fix. Wake up!!! You have a nice golf course and I enjoy playing there. Keep it safe!!!
