The Valley is now the Big Valley

by Joe
(Weatherford, Texas)

I hear the Valley is a big metropolitan area now like a huge city. That's a shame. I first went to the Valley in the late 60s and I visited there regularly for the next 20 years. I had a good friend, Glen Whitley who was a dentist in Harlingen and I would go visit him often. Glen, or Dr. Whitley, passed away in 2000 and I went to the funeral but didn't tour the Valley. The last time I was there other than that was in about 1989. We used to go to Reynosa but I don't think I would go there now. I think I'll just stay where I am and remember the Valley as I knew it then. I'll also always remember that beautiful dark-eyed girl I knew very well who lived in Ed Couch. Surely the prettiest girl I ever loved.
