Taqueria LA Mexicana

by Tim
(Harlingen)

At some urging from a few friends, I went to visit Taqueria La Mexican. It’s a traditional Mexican restaurant. With a decent sized menu. They have some actual dishes instead of just tacos and fajita plates.

I ordered the Nortena. It is made with bacon, sirloin, trompo, onion and pepper. They give you a good sized portion on a sizzling plate. The staff was somewhat friendly. My biggest disappointment was the tea being $1.99. Maybe it’s a new trend for restaurants to over price their drinks to make a profit, but it really turns me off. Meal with a tea came to $10.80. Not impressed. Not disappointed. Would I go again? No, at these prices, I can go to La Playa, get a special, and get a way better experience.

Great Place to Eat
by: Anonymous

Taqueria La Mexicana offers great food at a great price! I took my family out to eat and spent less than $30...and we are a family of 8. I know you might not believe me but they have a family pack with 4 orders or tacos (6 tacos per order) 4 baked potatoes , unlimited charro beans and 4 drinks for $21.99 (family pack) then I ordered an additional order of 6 tacos plus I had a coupon for a FREE Guacamole ($4.99 value). Half of my family ordered water. We all had a good dinner for less than it would cost to make the food ourselves. You can find the coupon for the Free Guacamole in the Mission/Mcallen area free magazines at different business locations. We visited the Mcallen restaurant on north 23rd street.
