Dear Educator,
We welcome and appreciate your participation in support of STEM efforts here at UTPA and invite you to a STEM series presentation sponsored by the Graduate School at UTPA. You don't have to know a thing about space, stars, astronomy to enjoy this presentation. Dr. Phil Plait, internationally known science-based speaker, author and astronomer, is presenting his lecture Death from the Skies at the UTPA Student Union Theatre on November 15, 2011 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. free to the public. Dr. Phil Plait takes the audience on a humorous ride through the plethora of astronomical possible ways that the earth will end.
Topics covered range from asteroid hits, solar flares, death of the sun, supernovae explosions and gamma ray bursts. He clears up a lot of misconceptions portrayed in Hollywood films. This presentation isnt just about astronomy, its gets you thinking and broadens your perspective about our universe.
The UTPA Graduate School will provide popcorn and drinks. A night observation with telescopes will be taking place between the LAC and the Physical Science building on campus following the event. For additional information, contact the Office of Graduate Studies at (956) 665-3661 or gradschool@utpa.edu. Registration is available online at www.utpa.edu/gradschool.
