People say there isnt' much to do in the valley but I say they're wrong!

by Analisa Saldivar
(Rio Grande Valley - Edinburg, TX)

Hello!

My name is Analisa Saldivar, 24 years old and have lived in the Rio grande valley almost all my life.

I love the VALLEY and am proud to live here. I have visited other states and cities but there is no place like home.

Alot of people complain that there's nothing to do besides the "USUAL" thing of movies, dinner, clubs, bars...but I say they're wrong.

There is tons of things to do in the valley!

Right now is the fall season and Halloween is coming up. In celebration of Halloween and fall season there are a couple of main yearly attractions.

Rio Grande Corn Maize in Mercedes and Donna's Corn Maze (1 i've visited already)

There's also two haunted houses going on too....Scream Factor X (downtown Mcallen)and The Rotting Flesh Factory Haunted House (Harlingen)

ALso my fave event is the McAllen Art Walk which is held every 1st friday of the month. It usually lasts from September until May

When there are shows and plays I LOVE attending the UTPA Theatre Plays.

My New Fave Place that has been having an ongoing calendar of events is the McAllen Creative Incubator
I'm looking forward to attend their Taste of India event going on next week.

An organization that seems interesting for those that are struggling and do not qualify for public assistance is ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES. You pay 25 dollars and get 50 dollars worth of food. Every month there is a different menu. This is through different churches all over the United states and many are located in the RGV

- You can see the menu and search for a HOST SITE for the your nearest location on their website.

My roommate is really into the organic lifestyle and I myself actually got interested in co-op farming but unfortunately, I can't afford it. Perhaps you can, so here's a site of local organic farms in the RGV.

Local Harvest

oh yeah....and did you know there's OPERA in the Valley its called Pro canuts lyric opera is another event i've gone to. Its awesome!

Last but not least, I enjoy catching an occasional Hockey Game @ the Hidalgo Dodge Arena

So now you have an idea of the interests and events that I partake in any time of the year!

Hopefully you all will go to one of these events and know you'll realize these cultural events are one of the many reasons why I love the Rio Grande Valley!
