Memorial Day

by American
(Texas)

Does the Valley not honor American holidays? I know that Sharyland high school blows off Memorial Day.

Is this common in other Valley schools? Why not labor day or a bad weather day? What does this teach this generation of young Americans? It's a very anti-American thing to do and very disrespectful. Is it even legal?

Most people in the Valley say they are mexicans,is this why its so easy not to honor an American day of respect for our dead?

It's Un- American; imo
by: Tim

Sadly, our country in general falls further and further away from its core values. I was shocked the first time I heard a school did not recognize Memorial Day as a major holiday.

My wife is a teacher and I had to ask her about 5 times; "Are you sure you don't get Memorial Day off?" Why Columbus Day has been elevated over Memorial Day is beyond me.

As far as most people in the Rio Grande Valley saying they are Mexicans, I have not encountered this. Most I have spoken to would say they are Americans with pride in their Mexican heritage.

Remember, the southern counties of Texas are predominately blue counties. Historically and generally speaking, liberals aren't hardcore about military support.
