La Mexicana - Pharr

by Sandra

This Mexican restaurant boasts of its Botana and we know why. The meat is very tender and it is just super delicious! But, even before your meal arrives, you are generously given a basket of tortilla chips and salsa. Their sweet tea is really the best! I have also ordered the Tlalpeno soup and it is so good - spicy broth with chicken and rice and topped with cheese and avocado slices. Yum!

You are taken care of by their waiters who know how to treat their guests.
And you will be entertained by a musician who regularly plays on his keyboard popular Mexican music such as La Cucaracha and Mariachi Loco. Certain nights, mariachis can be seen going from table to table asking if you would like to hear them. Be sure and ask them their going rate first though. It is a real treat if you have visitors from out-of-town visiting.

We have been going there for over 20 years; and while they were under another name back then, they have outdone themselves the past few years.
They are located on Business 83 in Pharr.

The original name of this restaurant was The Roundup and we frequented it during the early l980s. I don't know if they are under new management or what, but it is simply the best! Please do not confuse the service or food with the other La Mexicana located on 2nd street in McAllen. I've been there about 3 times hoping to get the same delicious results as the one in Pharr, but I have always gone away very, very dissatisfied.
