I need an apartment....fast!

I am due to relocate to RGV in mid April for a new job. So far I have had no luck finding an apartment. I'm not sure where to look, the places I have found on line all look so...the same and sterile. I am looking for a place that feels 'homey'and is in a safe neighborhood. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! My new job is in Brownsville so I would like something that isn't too far from there. Thanks!
