STC’s Mid-Valley Campus exhibit shines light on human nature
“Expressions of Humanity,” an exhibit featuring artwork by Veronica Jaeger, will be on display at South Texas College’s Mid-Valley Campus Library Art Gallery now through December 10, 2010. STC’s Mid-Valley Campus Library Art Gallery is located at 400 N. Border Ave., Building E in Weslaco, Texas. Admission is free and open to the public.
Veronica Jaeger is a Venezuelan artist who earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from The University of Texas-Pan American. She has exhibited her work in Germany, Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida and throughout South Texas. Some of the prestigious grants and honors she has earned for her work include The National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC) Fund for the Arts and The Joyce Dutka Arts Foundation Lenore Segan Visual Arts Grant Award, to name a few.
Within Jaeger’s recent series of paintings, she contemplates the intricacies of emotions and situations humans face daily. Instead of questioning human functioning, Jaeger utilizes the contrasting ideas of the figure and geometric shapes within her work to explore the duality of humanity’s earthly nature, while also recognizing the subjective mind and spirit.
In regards to her art Jaeger said, “I want to engage in a conversation with the viewer that enables a questioning about existence, reality, culture, limitations and society. My preoccupation is to make work that is universal, intertwined with my own beliefs and experiences.”
“Jaeger’s work reflects her desire to express behaviors and emotions inherent to the human condition,” said Sofia K. Vestweber, STC Library Art Gallery associate. “Her work is strikingly poignant in depicting the harsh realities within human nature, which are often decidedly forgotten about or overlooked.”
STC’s Library Art Gallery Program exhibits regional, national and international artwork, explores new visions and theories of creativity, and introduces innovative artistic expressions to the South Texas region.
