Ay Jalisco

Ay Jalisco - Restaurant and Bar

Time of visit: 11:00 AM on Saturday.

Atmosphere: Ay Jalisco is a cross between a Mexican Restaurant and a Sports Bar. There were 4 tables with groups when I arrived. All the decorations and colors are set up with a Hispanic touch and there are 5 good size TVs hung from the wall. For the first 5 minutes I was there, the music was soft and in the background. Then the live performer came on and it was to loud real quick. When asking the waiter what time they opened in the morning we had to raise our voices to communicate.

Customer Service: You seat yourself and the wait staff is there to take your drink order within the first two minutes. I had come for lunch and wanting to evaluate a multitude of aspects I ordered a water and a diet coke. When I first asked for water, the waiter game this odd look. I could only interrupt it as disappointment in ordering water. They did check on me a few times during my visit. However, any smiles seemed forced.

Cleanliness: When I first came in, I picked out a table and headed over to it only find it was not thoroughly clean and there was still food on the tablecloth. So, I sat at the table next to it. Unfortunately, there was food on this tablecloth also. After ordering my food, I proceed to use the men's room and do my inspection there. In no stretch of the imagination was the bathroom clean. Since it was only 11:00, I felt there should have been time to clean up after any mess from breakfast.

Food Quality: The menu is a little limited. I ordered the fish and shrimp combo plate at $11.99. I placed my order 11:15 There was enough food for the price and I find this is usually not the case with seafood. The shrimp was the best part of the meal. It was hot and juicy. They tasted fresh. The fish was hot also. The taste was passable, but not as good as the shrimp. The rice tasted good, but for some reason was cold.

Pros: The shrimp and they have a $5.99 daily special Monday thru Friday with lemonade.

Cons: It's dirty and with only 4 tables full the food took to long.

Final determination: It could be a great place to go drinking on party nights, but for eating lunch. I'll pass.
